Tickets for the Rock the Bells go on sale this Saturday. Think of it as Coachella for hip-hop and the line up this year is awesome. I'm really excited and hopefully I get tickets and convince a group of people to go.
Here's my selection
- Rage Against the Machine
- Wu-Tang Clan (I've always wanted to see them live)
- Blackalicious
- Hieroglyphics
- Public Enemy (this is going to be wild)
- Cypress Hill
- The Roots
- Pharaohe Monch
- Mos Def
Yup, that's pretty much everyone there. I can't wait till August 18th comes around and I get to see so many groups I have been dying to see for many years.
BTW Type-O-Negative are playing at Slim's on the 18th of April. They're another band I've wanted to see for years and a chance to hang out with the goths ;)
It's almost time for coachella this year and I'm blown away by the line up. Without a doubt the band I want to see most is Rage Against the Machine. They are the single band that most influenced my thinking and attitude to things when I was a kid. While I don't agree with all their politics their in your face style is something I respect. I think the music world has been missing a band like them over the last 6 or so years since they split up. Tom Morello does the most insane things with his guitar and has to be one of the best guitarists out there, he's also pretty well educated and one of the most articulate rockers I've ever seen. Zack's lyrics are amazing with his ability to layer metaphors and obscure references with such power is incredible. I saw them play once at the Big Day Out in Brisbane. I waited through 5 sets of mediocre bands just to get front row to see them play. It was out of this world. I don't think I'll risk the front row thing at coachella this year but they are my top band this year.
Last time I went in '05 my favorites were Prodigy (they know how to put on a show), The Secret Chiefs, Chemical Brothers, M.I.A , Z-Trip, Kasabian and most of the stuff in the electronica tent. I like zoning out to electronica.
This is year I'm looking forward to (in no particular order):
- peaches (you just have to watch out for all the nakedness that happens)
- the jesus and mary chain
- faithless
- dj shadow
- sonic youth
- the new pornographers
- lcd sound system
- red hot chilli peppers
- paul van dyk
- crowded house
- willie nelson
- the roots
- placebo
- pharoahe monch
- ghostface killah
- air
Update: Got tickets total cost $290 on ticketmaster. Well worth it :)
